Cats, Dragonflies and Butterflies.

In 2015, my father passed away.  In my grief, a friend gifted me a psychic reading with a medium, a spiritual medium

is someone who communicates with the dead. I was not convinced that this is possible but I decided to be open to the

experience. The reading took place on the phone. I was sitting by water at the time when the medium called me and the first thing

she said to me is “I see dragonflies, they are all around you”, I was astonished because dragonflies were indeed all around me,

in fact they were circling all around me. This was auspicious to say the least. After the reading, I promised myself I would learn about

dragonflies and their symbolic meanings.   It was not a surprise when I learned that dragonflies in almost every part of the world

symbolizes change, transformation, adaptability and self realization.  The change that is often referred to has its source in mental

and emotional understanding in the deeper meaning of life. In fact these are the concepts that had been manifesting in my artwork

for years.

Another subject I love is cats !  I have cared for and loved cats my whole life, I see them as little gods with magical intuitive powers to

help and provide guidance especially when facing a period of change or some other kind of challenge. Many cultures

see cats as sacred creatures that relates to independence, self reliance, freedom, curiosity and patience. Virtues I personally aspire to be within

myself and in my artwork. The works below are my recent most works. They are dimensional sculptures that integrate the sacred

symbolism of cats, dragonflies and butterflies intertwined with the female shape. I suppose this is about my own secret wish to identify

with cats and their ability to express unconditional love and to find peace in simple moments, virtues human beings overlook in modern society.
